Expanding an offshore wind division
About: This client was looking to expand their Offshore Wind Division with mid-senior level managers for their Operations Business Unit.
Roles: Offshore Installation Manager, Contract Manager, O&M Engineers, Supply Chain Manager
Sector: Wholesale power market
We have been working with our client, a renewable energy company, on an exclusive basis, since 2019.
Recently they were looking to expand their Offshore Wind Division with mid-senior level managers for their Operations Business Unit.
Having little success through two of their long-time recruitment providers as well as their own internal talent team, they contacted us to help.
Working with this client for the past 18 months, we already had an excellent understanding of their needs, the types of individuals they look for, and of their employer brand.
However, we still conducted a full needs analysis for each role. During this process, we discussed potential recruitment challenges, suggesting ways to overcome them. We then provided a Vacancy Confirmation Report outlining our understanding of each role and recommended approach; retained headhunting with referrals and networking.
Due to our relationship, we are in constant, sometimes daily, communication. We are continually researching the market and actively headhunting to identify candidates who would potentially be good to work with them or could recommend others to do so.
With relocation packages offer, this helped open up the search; however, we needed to mitigate the dangers that come with relocation.
Offshore renewables is still a small and young industry. Therefore, there is a distinct lack of skilled, experienced people available. The client ideally needed people with proven industry experience (offshore wind).
On review of the job specification, we used benchmarking and analysis to identify role performance objectives. This enabled us to separate the essential from desirable, identifying markets where we might find transferable skills. The client agreed to widen the search to include; Marine/Oil & Gas/HV.
This information was used for a full market mapping exercise of local relevant companies. Name gathering enabled us to identify individuals with transferable skills.
The innovation and success of this solution was the strength of our relationship, coupled with our niche market expertise/networks. Constant communication and face-to-face meetings helped to foster deep understanding. The level of trust meant they were willing to accept our advice/recommendations in widening the search.
One of our key differentiators is the speed of delivery. Our extensive network across Power & Energy gave us the ability to reach out quickly to candidates who know us and are loyal to our brand.
4/5 of the roles were successfully filled by us. The Contracts Manager role was filled internally.
The organization has committed to partner with us and have awarded us exclusivity on several additional roles that will be coming up within the next six months.
