Build a team of eight senior people to manage the construction phase of the UK’s largest grid-scale battery at the time: 49MW.
This was at the site of a former coal-fired power station in Cumbria in the North West of England.
As a technology company, this was Younicos’ first time both as a main contractor and operating in the UK.
They relied on our local expertise to find the correct skills which were challenging due to a lack of local renewable expertise in a remote town known for shipbuilding and nuclear.
Equally important was finding the best-suited personalities that could be trusted to lead the project from the UK and manage a complex set of stakeholders.
There was doubt over whether the flagship project would perform as expected, however, it was delivered extremely successfully.
We worked in partnership with the hiring managers to decide on what roles were required, in which order they should be hired, and to develop the details of the job spec.
This also involved managing expectations on available skillsets and advising on market rates. We then developed an understanding of the client’s company culture as well as that of their own client.
We utilized our network and knowledge of the energy sector to source the best local talent.
We also identified people for more challenging briefs from across the UK, attracting them through the unique opportunity to play a part in the largest battery project of its kind in the UK.
We were proud to receive excellent feedback on the team’s excellent performance and representation of Younicos’ values throughout the 18-month project.
The Programme Manager appointment was a key position that led the UK team on behalf of Younicos and was the primary point of contact for their client and sub-contractors.
We presented someone with a different engineering discipline from the brief who had an exemplary track record in people and stakeholder management who secured the position and became pivotal to the success of the project.
